Business Plan Coaching Training for Teaching Factory (TeFa) Tourism Vocational Schools
The Business Plan Coaching activity carried out by DESMA Center Southwest Sumba was attended by the Principal and teachers of SMKN 2 Tambolaka City as one of the assisted vocational schools, Principal and teachers of SMK Bakti Luhur Tambolaka, teachers from SMKN 1 Waikabubak, SMKN 2 Lamboya and SMK Efata Ombarade. In addition to the teachers, the activity was also attended by Korwas SMA/SMK/ PLB SBD Representatives from the East Nusa Tenggara Provincial Office of Education and Culture and William & Lily Foundation Field Staff.
The activity was held on Monday, 21 February 2022 in the hall of SMKN 2 Tambolaka City-Sumba Southwest. Teaching Factory (TeFa) is the development of the production unit, namely the application of the partner industry system in the existing production unit in SMK. TeFa is a production and business orientated learning concept to answer the challenges of industrial development today and in the future. It is a learning model that brings the industrial atmosphere to schools so that schools can produce industry-level quality products/services.
The purpose of this activity are: 1. Making the Teaching Factory plan more focused; 2. Minimising the risk of failure; 3. Designing business projections in the Teaching Factory; 4. Increasing the Teaching Factory level; 5. Making Teaching Factory objectives clearer; 6. Making priorities more focused.
The training was opened by the Supervisor of SMA/SMK/PLB Southwest Sumba, Representative of the East Nusa Tenggara Provincial Office of Education and Culture. The trainer / resource person in this activity is Mr Evert Da Lopez Baksuni, S.E., Human Resources & Operational Manager - New Sasando International Hotel Kupang.
The training method used in this training is presentation, explanation and punctuated with questions and sharing from both the trainer and the trainees.
Before the participants started the training activities, the trainees were first given a Pre-Test to be filled in through the link sent to each participant. After the training, participants were also given a Post-Test.
The results achieved in this activity are that teachers have been able to make good and correct plans to start Teaching Factory (TeFa) activities in their respective schools based on the guidelines for making budget plans and implementation strategies taught by the Trainer.
As a follow-up to this activity, each participating school will start Teaching Factory activities, which is one of the requirements for schools that will lead to SMK Centres of Excellence.
The Business Plan Coaching training activity conducted for teachers of assisted Tourism Vocational Schools in Southwest Sumba is part of Strengthening the Relationship of assisted Tourism Vocational Schools with the Tourism Industry, in the Tourism TVET Ecosystem Strengthening project in Southwest Sumba implemented by DESMA Center.

The "DESMA Pandai - Strengthening the Tourism TVET Ecosystem in Southwest Sumba" program is implemented by DESMA Center, a collaborative project funded by the William & Lily Foundation and Adaro Foundation. This collaboration is carried out to support the government, educational institutions, tourism industry and communities in Southwest Sumba in preparing quality human resources who are ready to contribute to sustainable tourism development.
The program runs for 2 (two) years from August 2020 to July 2022. The direct beneficiaries are SMKS Pancasila Tambolaka and SMKN 2 Tambolaka, Southwest Sumba Regency. Project activities include : (1) Strengthening advocacy to provincial and district governments; (2) Increasing the capacity of tourism vocational schools to prepare to fulfil the requirements towards LSP P1; and (3) Strengthening the linkages and networks of tourism vocational schools with related tourism industries.
The project partners with the Education and Culture Office of East Nusa Tenggara Province, the Korwas SMA/SMK/PLB of Southwest Sumba Regency, the Government of Southwest Sumba Regency, the Tourism Office of Southwest Sumba Regency, as well as 2 (two) model SMKs namely SMKN 1 Kupang and SMKN 3 Denpasar that are involved in a sister school programme with SMKS Pancasila and SMKN 2 Tambolaka.
The project also received support from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology and the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy.
