Workshop on Capacity Building for Vocational Tourism Teachers: CV and Job Interview Preparation for SMK Graduates

DESMA Center held a workshop on Curriculum Vitae (CV) Preparation & Job Interview Preparation for SMK graduates with the aim that teachers as teaching staff in tourism vocational schools and students graduating from tourism vocational schools can gain practical knowledge.

Through this activity, it is expected that students who graduated from SMK Department of Tourism can be able to compete in the world of work when preparing job applications and are better prepared to face interviews and prepare application documents, including Curriculum Vitae properly and correctly.

The workshop method is the presentation of content by resource persons accompanied by interactive discussions and sharing of experiences from both resource persons and workshop participants.

 

 

It was held at the SMK Pancasila Tambolaka Hotel Hall on Wednesday, 23 March 2022 with resource persons Mrs Redempta T. Bato; Secretary of the Indonesian Hotel and Restaurant Association (PHRI) Southwest Sumba; Mrs Merry Maspaitella; Director of Human Resources & General Affairs Hotel Nihi Sumba and Anna Retno S.N; Manager of Rua Beach Resort Hotel.

The participants represented SMKs majoring in tourism from East Sumba, West Sumba and Southwest Sumba which are teachers of assisted SMKs (SMK Pancasila Tambolaka and SMKN 2 Tambolaka City) and 6 non-assisted SMKs (SMK Negeri 1 Waingapu-East Sumba, SMKN 2 Lamboya, SMK Bakti Luhur Tambolaka, SMKN 1 Waikabubak, SMK Efata Ombarade and SMK Kasimo Tambolaka).

In addition to the teachers, the activity was also attended by Mr Yulius Djawamara, S.Pd.; Korwas SMA/SMK/ PLB SBD, representatives of the East Nusa Tenggara Provincial Office of Education and Culture.

A further workshop will be held to follow up on this workshop activity. In addition, Nihi Sumba Hotel and Rua Beach Resort Hotel are willing to accept Prakerin students from the Sumba Tourism Cluster Vocational School with applicable conditions.

 

 

Vocational Teacher Capacity Building Workshop: Curriculum Vitae (CV) Preparation & Job Interview Preparation for Vocational School Graduates, is part of the Strengthening the Relationship of Assisted Tourism Vocational Schools with the Tourism Industry, in the project Strengthening the Tourism TVET Ecosystem in Southwest Sumba implemented by DESMA Center.

The "DESMA Pandai - Strengthening the Tourism TVET Ecosystem in Southwest Sumba" program is implemented by DESMA Center, a collaborative project funded by the William & Lily Foundation and Adaro Foundation. This collaboration is carried out to support the government, educational institutions, tourism industry and communities in Southwest Sumba in preparing quality human resources who are ready to contribute to sustainable tourism development.

The program runs for 2 (two) years from August 2020 to July 2022. The direct beneficiaries are SMKS Pancasila Tambolaka and SMKN 2 Tambolaka, Southwest Sumba Regency. Project activities include : (1) Strengthening advocacy to provincial and district governments; (2) Increasing the capacity of tourism vocational schools to prepare to fulfil the requirements towards LSP P1; and (3) Strengthening the linkages and networks of tourism vocational schools with related tourism industries. 

The project partners with the Education and Culture Office of East Nusa Tenggara Province, the Korwas SMA/SMK/PLB of Southwest Sumba Regency, the Government of Southwest Sumba Regency, the Tourism Office of Southwest Sumba Regency, as well as 2 (two) model SMKs namely SMKN 1 Kupang and SMKN 3 Denpasar that are involved in a sister school programme with SMKS Pancasila and SMKN 2 Tambolaka.

The project also received support from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology and the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy.
