DESMA Center Conducted Financial Literacy Training for Villages' Ecotourism in Kalimantan Utara

In the context of the project "Capacity Building of Village Government Institutions and Social Forestry Management to Develop Community-Based Ecotourism", a collaboration between GIZ PROPEAT and DESMA Center, a series of training on ecotourism development was conducted for youth groups, Pokdarwis, village governments, HKm management groups in Atap Village and Setabu Village, Binusan Village and Belagaone Mangrove Ecotourism Area in Nunukan Regency, North Kalimantan.

Financial Literacy Training is one of the trainings in this 4-day training series. The training was held on 16 November 2021 at Hotel Neo Fortuna, Nunukan, North Kalimantan from 08:00 to 18:00 WITA. The training was given by the DESMA Centre team speaker, Made Wiranatha.

The training was divided into 4 (four) sessions namely financial planning, financial management, financial cycles and poor financial practices; accompanied by exercises that were practised directly by the group of participants.

The activity began with a pre-test and bonded the participants through word connect and hobby games, then continued with the creation of a dream tree. The participants were divided into 3 groups based on their village origin.

From the pre and post-test, it was found that the highest understanding of the participants was about the function of financial management and transaction documents that are considered valid. While the lowest understanding of the participants was about the purpose of financial literacy which is to increase the trust of others. The participants were quite active in participating in each group discussion as well as completing group assignments. Although in each group there are those who are considered more prominent than others.
