DESMA Center Conducted Training on Business Model Canvas Development in Kalimantan Utara

In the context of the project "Capacity Building of Village Government Institutions and Social Forestry Management to Develop Community-Based Ecotourism", a collaboration between GIZ PROPEAT and DESMA Center, a series of training on ecotourism development was conducted for youth groups, Pokdarwis, village governments, HKm management groups in Atap Village and Setabu Village, Binusan Village and Belagaone Mangrove Ecotourism Area in Nunukan Regency, North Kalimantan.

Business Model Canvas (BMC) Preparation Training is one of the trainings in this 4-day training series. The training was held on 18 November 2021 at Hotel Neo Fortuna, Nunukan, North Kalimantan from 08:00 to 18:00 WITA. The training was given by DESMA Center team speaker Dwi Setijo Widodo with co-trainer Dicky Mardyan.

Participants were given one sheet of paper to discuss with the group and practise directly how to write down the aspects needed in making a BMC for tourism development plans in their village.

The objective of this training is to help participants to visualise and assess business ideas or concepts for tourism development in their village clearly and simply. Participants can also make planning in developing their business easier and more detailed which can later be applied to all types of businesses.

BMC training is one aspect of planning in creating a tourism business. Participants realised after several days of training that tourism development involves many aspects to learn. By understanding the potential of the village (related to the unique value that can be offered & advantages that cannot be imitated) and the stages of recognising the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and challenges of each potential in tourism development in their village are things that need to be discussed further by each group so that the results of making BMC can be a basic reference for the tourism business concept to be developed in their respective villages.

On this occasion, the secretary of the Nunukan Regency Tourism, Youth and Sports Office was present, as well as the GIZ PROPEAT team represented by Mrs Nessy Rosdiana as coordinator; also providing direction and input to all participants.
