Capacity Building for Gunung Leuser National Park Officers through Resort Based Management Training

DESMA Center in collaboration with UNESCO Office Jakarta and Gunung Leuser National Park carried out Resort Based Management Training carried out from October 1 to 3, 2013 in Garuda Plaza Hotel in Medan, North Sumatra. DESMA Center, assigned as a partner of UNESCO Office Jakarta through tender process.

The training was attended by 29 key staff of Gunung Leuser National Park. The number of participants has exceeded the target from UNESCO Office Jakarta. The training comprised of presentations on leadership, field experience, overview of philosophy and spirit of RBM and its implementation; Questionnaire of RBM perception; lesson learned from other national parks in implementing RBM. At the end of the training, participants formulated and agreed the standard operating procedure (SoP) of bottom-up planning process to support RBM, Protocol of data collection and data sharing mechanism from resort to headquarter, and establish RBM Mobile Team to assist six targeted resort.

 

DESMA Center has worked closely with GLNP Management to monitor post-training activities. DESMA Center assisted RBM Mobile Team to examine and try out the agreed SoP/protocol of resort planning process, data collection, resort profile, and sketch map in targeted resorts. GLNP management will evaluate the results of try out during On-the-Job Training (OJT) within one month after the monitoring post-training activities.
