DESMA Center Presentation at the DKT Development of Destination Management Organisation and Destination Governance (DMO-DG) Model of the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy
The Directorate of Strategic Studies, Deputy for Strategic Policy, Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy held a Focus Group Discussion (DKT) on the Development of the Destination Management Organization (DMO) Model for the Destination Management Organization (DMO) Business Model Pre-Assessment. The event carried the theme Conceptions and Understanding of the DMO-DG Model and its Application in the Management and Governance of Tourism Destinations in the New Adaptation Era; held on 30 September 2020 in Depok, West Java.
The Director of Strategic Studies was present to deliver remarks and directions. The resource persons at the DKT were Dr. Frans Teguh, MA; Ministerial Expert Staff for Sustainable Development and Conservation of the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy, who explained the DMO-DG Model as a Strategic Concept in Tourism Development; Prof. Dr. Yuwana Mardjuka from the LPSR Institute of Communication and Business Jakarta, who explained the Definition, Concept, Approach and Business Model of DMO-DG in the era of New Habit Adaptation; Dipl. Ing. Benjamin Abdurahman Executive Director of LEKAD, who explained the Constraints and Opportunities of DMO-DG Utilisation in Tourism Destination Development (Best Practices & Lesson Learned).
Also present as speakers were Dr. Diena M Lemy, Professor of Tourism at Pelita Harapan University, who explained Tourism Destination Development in Relation to Research Needs as a Foundation for Strengthening DMO-DG Performance (DMO Performance); and Founder & Director of DESMA Center Wiwik Mahdayani, who explained DMO-DG and Strengthening Local Tourism Management and its Effect on Local Community Welfare (People Centre Development).

The discussion sessions were moderated by the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy including Norman Sasono, Coordinator of Strategic Studies I; Torang Nasution, Policy Analyst; and Roby Ardywidjaya, Researcher.
In his presentation, Founder & Director of DESMA Center Wiwik Mahdayani underlined community capacity, environmental preservation, community involvement and political considerations of development as the basic principles of destination development; as well as the 3P approach in applying sustainability principles in the development of tourist destinations. In addition to describing the current condition of DMOs in Indonesia, 10 (ten) challenges of implementing DMO-DG at the site level were also presented; as well as 5 (five) aspects of DMO-DG Development and Strengthening Local Tourism Management. On this occasion, one of the best practices of DMO-DG implementation in Toraja DMO was also presented
