In response to the long-term vision of Golden Indonesia (Indonesia Emas) 2045 and the directives of the National Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJMN) 2025–2029, the Ministry of Tourism, through the Deputy for Event Organizer Development and the Assistant Deputy for Event Strategy, is preparing the Roadmap for the Development of Indonesia’s Tourism Event Industry in collaboration with DESMA Center as the document drafting partner.
To ensure a participatory, inclusive, relevant, and evidence-based approach, a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) with stakeholders from the government, industry, and associations was held in Jakarta on September 3, 2025, organized by the Ministry of Tourism and DESMA Center.
The activity was held to identify and further map out strategic issues, challenges, and opportunities that had been identified during desk studies and a series of limited consultations with 22 associations representing players in Indonesia’s tourism event industry. It also aimed to gather policy recommendations and establish a shared understanding among government representatives, industry actors, and related sectors to support the drafting of a more targeted roadmap for the tourism event industry.
The event was attended by 70 participants, including representatives from relevant ministries and agencies, tourism event business players, and related deputy offices within the Ministry of Tourism. The discussion began with an activity report presented by Mrs. Betsy Dian Astri, SS, Head of Event Strategy Development. Mr. Fransiskus Handoko, SST.Par., M.Sc., Assistant Deputy for Event Strategy, delivered remarks and officially opened the session on behalf of the Deputy for Event Organizer Development, Ministry of Tourism.

DESMA Center then presented an initial draft of the Roadmap for the Development of Indonesia’s Tourism Event Industry. The discussion continued with a breakout group session in which participants were divided into groups consisting of representatives from ministries and agencies, tourism event business associations, and various deputy offices within the Ministry of Tourism. In this format, each group specifically discussed strategic issues in the national tourism event sector, including:
a. Policies and regulations as the legal framework for event development
b. Competitiveness and event quality to enable Indonesia to compete regionally and globally
c. Cross-sector collaboration opportunities to strengthen the tourism value chain.
The results of the group discussions will serve as substantive input for refining the Roadmap for the Development of Indonesia’s Tourism Event Industry, which is expected to provide evidence-based policy direction and implementation strategies while also being responsive to the dynamics of the tourism event industry. Through this series of activities, the roadmap is expected not only to serve as a guide for government policy but also as a practical reference for business players, associations, and other stakeholders.
With this roadmap, Indonesia’s tourism event industry is expected to not only become a key driver of economic growth but also strengthen Indonesia’s position as a leading destination for high-quality, inclusive, and sustainable tourism events.
