Workshop IV Youth Friendly School to Realize Better Tourism Human Resources

DESMA Center held a workshop on youth-friendly schools from bullying, violence and harassment on 08 February 2025 at SMKS Pancasila, Sumba, East Nusa Tenggara. The workshop was attended by 61 participants who were principals, teachers, education personnel, and school security officers.
“Facing students is a daily life for us. So, it is important to understand efforts to protect students from bullying,” said Mr. Aleks Rangga Pija, S.H., M.Pd., Principal of SMKS Pancasila.
Mr. Dhana Dhiwantara, General Manager of Sima Hotel Sumba delivered material related to the importance of building student character before they go down to the industrial world. Students also need to be equipped with mental readiness to face challenges in the world of work, such as seniority and potential harassment.
Through this workshop, it is hoped that the culture of hitting or cursing can be eliminated in the school environment. Punishment in the form of educational tasks that build students' character can be an option, instead of making them afraid or confused because of differences of opinion with the teacher.
This activity is DESMA Center's commitment to strengthen tourism human resources (HR) who are tolerant, superior and competitive to realize better tourism.

The Safe Leaning program is part of the TVET Program for Sustainable Tourism Development in Sumba supported by MISEREOR/KZE and Kindermissionswerk (KMW); implemented by DESMA Center. The youth-friendly school program aims to prevent bullying, violence and harassment in the school environment; so that young people can appreciate differences between people and realize better tourism.
The program includes strengthening (1) the capacity of school management regarding the importance of youth protection in schools in line with Permendikburistek Number 46 of 2023 on the Prevention and Handling of Violence in the Education Unit Environment (PPKSP); (2) the capacity of the Violence Prevention and Handling Team (TPPK) in schools to run actively and (3) the partnership of SMK Pariwisata, government, non-profit institutions, communities, and stakeholders.
The direct beneficiaries of this program are (1) SMK Pancasila - Tambolaka, Southwest Sumba; (2) SMK Negeri 2 Tambolaka City, Southwest Sumba; (3) SMK Bakti Luhur - Tambolaka, Southwest Sumba; (4) SMK Efata - Omba Rade, Southwest Sumba; and (5) SMK Negeri 1 Waikabubak, West Sumba. The direct partners of this program are (1) East Nusa Tenggara Provincial Education & Culture Office; (2) Southwest Sumba Regency Government; (3) West Sumba Regency Government; (4) Southwest Sumba Regency Tourism Office; and (5) West Sumba Regency Tourism Office.
