DESMA Center held a youth-friendly school workshop against bullying, violence and harassment on January 24 2025 at SMKS Efata Omba Rade, Sumba, East Nusa Tenggara. This workshop was attended by 22 participants who were teachers, school principals, committee chairs and parents.

"After participating in this activity, we can share and apply the knowledge gained in the school environment and at home," said Mrs. Kristina, a student's parent.

Mrs. Agustina Purnami Setiawi, Program Officer Field Office Sumba DESMA Center provided an understanding regarding the urgency of protecting children from various forms of violence.

Mr. Andrianus Aminsinggih Maure, S.S., M.Sc., Founder and Director of Sumba Pakar Bestari filled in an interactive discussion session and introduced project-based learning and the use of technology to increase student participation. The topics raised in the discussion were identifying forms of violence in schools and formulating student protection strategies.

Through this workshop, it is hoped that Efata Omba Rade Vocational School can become a model for other schools in implementing student protection policies and creating a school environment that is safer, more comfortable and supports student development.

This activity is the DESMA Center's commitment to strengthening tourism human resources (HR) who are tolerant, superior and competitive to create better tourism.

Program Safe Leaning is part of Program TVET for Sustainable Tourism Development in Sumba supported by MISEREOR/KZE and Kindermissionswerk (KMW); implemented by the DESMA Center. The youth-friendly school program aims to prevent bullying, violence and harassment in the school environment; so that young people can appreciate the differences between each other and create better tourism.

This program includes strengthening (1) school management capacity regarding the importance of protecting teenagers in schools which is in line with Permendikburistek Number 46 of 2023 concerning Prevention and Handling of Violence in Educational Unit Environments (PPKSP); (2) The capacity of the Violence Prevention and Handling Team (TPPK) in schools is running actively and (3) partnerships between Tourism Vocational Schools, government, non-profit institutions, communities and stakeholders.

The direct beneficiaries of this program are (1) Pancasila Vocational School – Tambolaka, Southwest Sumba; (2) SMK Negeri 2 Tambolaka City, Southwest Sumba; (3) Bakti Luhur Vocational School – Tambolaka, Southwest Sumba; (4) Efata Vocational School - Omba Rade, Southwest Sumba; and (5) Waikabubak State Vocational School 1, West Sumba. The direct partners of this program are (1) East Nusa Tenggara Province Education & Culture Office; (2) Southwest Sumba Regency Government; (3) West Sumba Regency Government; (4) Southwest Sumba Regency Tourism Office; and (5) West Sumba Regency Tourism Office.
