Waste Management in Event Businesses to Support Sustainable Tourism

The event business as a tourism subsector is able to attract large numbers of tourist visits. However, event business people need to pay attention to the impact on waste management. In response to this, the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy (Kemenparekraf) of the Republic of Indonesia organized Southeast Asia Business Event Forum (SEABEF) 2024 in conjunction with Wonderful Indonesia Tourism Fair (WITF) 2024. Taking place on 2-3 October 2024 at Swissotel PIK Avenue, Jakarta.

 

 

This exclusive forum brings together leaders, innovators and event business professionals to explore trends, share best practices and discuss strategies that will shape the future of the business events, including MICE (Meeting, Incentive, Exhibition, Convention) industry, especially in discussing key topics such as sustainability , human development, technological innovation and destination management.


Collaborating with the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy, Ibu Wiwik Mahdayani Founder & Executive Director DESMA Center guiding one of the discussions on an exclusive forum on how to face the challenges of waste management in the event business. Present as resource persons were Mrs. Amanda Marcella, Director of Sustainability Potato Head Family Bali, Mr. Ferry Dermawan, Program Director of Plainsong Live and Mr. Ralph Scheuneman, Marketing Director of PT. Jakarta International Expo (JIEXPO).

 

 

Based on the practices that have been carried out by the three sources to manage waste in the event business, including building an environmentally friendly ecosystem with staff, tenant and visitors, use of public transportation, empowering local communities, plastic use policies in event areas, and utilizing solar panels.
