Focus Group Discussion Management of Sustainable Tourism Destinations

As part of the preparation of the Academic Paper for the 2026-2045 National Tourism Development Master Plan (RIPPARNAS) and continuing the development of tourism destinations towards a Golden Indonesia 2045, the Deputy for Strategic Studies, Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy (Kemenparekraf) of the Republic of Indonesia held a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) Tourism Destination Management in Jakarta on August 23 2024. DESMA Center was one of the speakers explaining the Challenges of Sustainable Tourism Destination Management, which in this case was presented by Mrs. Wiwik Mahdayani, Founder & Executive Director.
This FGD aims to examine the governance and challenges of tourism development in priority tourism destinations and other tourism destinations. The results of the FGD contributed to the preparation of the Academic Manuscript for the National Tourism Development Master Plan (RIPPARNAS) for 2026-2045. This activity was opened by the Deputy for Strategic Policy at the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy, represented by Mr. Indra Ni Tua, Director of Strategic Management.

Mrs. Wiwik Mahdayani explained the challenges of tourism destinations in Indonesia in implementing the principles of sustainable tourism. In her presentation, Mrs. Wiwik mentioned challenges in various aspects including policy, financing and investment; information; understanding the application of sustainability principles, management; and cooperation between relevant stakeholders.
Apart from that, there were other speakers at the panel discussion including Mr Molin Duwano General Manager of The Mandalika by ITDC 2022-2024 who was represented by Mrs Rannie Kamil, Research and ESG Division Head ITDC; Mr Muhsin Palinrungi, Director of Culture, Tourism and Creative Economy, Nusantara Capital Authority; Mr Tjok Bagus Pemayun, Head of the Bali Province Tourism Office; Mr. Hendro Widjanarko, Head of the Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park Office, Ministry of Environment and Forestry; and Mr. Iyos Somantri, Deputy Regent of Sukabumi/Chair of the Ciletuh Geopark Management Agency.
