Workshop on Development of ASEAN Knowledge Platform on Waste Management and Sustainable Tourism
Waste management is a challenge that is still faced in tourism. The number of tourists will also affect the quantity of waste in tourist destinations. ASEAN Municipal Solid Waste Management Enhancement (AMUSE) organized Workshops on Development of ASEAN Knowledge Platform on Waste Management in Tourism Sector on May 30, 2024 in Bangkok, Thailand. This activity is a follow-up to the consultation meeting on Knowledge Management Strategy, on May 2, 2024 at the ASEAN Secretariat, in Jakarta.
The workshop was conducted with focus group discussions (FGDs) on the topics of the draft concept development of a regional knowledge platform, specifically on AWGESC topics including waste management and sustainable tourism; knowledge management strategies on waste management and sustainable tourism; and AMUSE regional training on waste management and sustainable tourism topics.
40 participants attended, representing representatives from the ASEAN Secretariat, ASEAN Working Group on Environmentally Sustainable Cities (AWGESC), relevant AMUSE partner ministries of ASEAN Member States (AMS), NGOs from across the region and AMUSE consultants include DESMA Center from Indonesia, AIT and Pimclick from Thailand.
The workshop was held with an opening session, by Dr. Vong Sok, Assistant Director Environment Division Sustainable Development Directorate ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community Department and Mr. Shameer Khanal, Director of the GIZ ASEAN Municipal Solid Waste Management Enhancement (AMUSE) Project and ASEAN Cluster Coordinator. Followed by a talk show session by Ms. Wiwik Mahdayani, Founder & Executive Director of DESMA Center; Mr. Bishal Bhari, Program Officer Asian Institute of Technology Regional Resource Centre for Asia and Pacific (AIT RRC.AP); Ms. Ludmila Bityaeva, Project Manager of Pimclick. Moderated by Mr. Frank Jattke, Team Leader GIZ-AMUSE Cambodia.
The Focus group Discussion ended with a World Café Method discussing 3 topics related to AMUSE Knowledge Management Strategy, facilitator DESMA Center; ASEAN Digital Knowledge Platform on Waste Management, facilitator Pimclick; and AMUSE Regional Training on Waste Management and Sustainable Tourism, facilitator AIT PRC.AP.
