DESMA Center Provides Sustainable Tourism Providing and Mentoring at the Innovative Essay Competition Civil Engineering National Summit, University of Indonesia

Innovative Essay Competition is a national level essay writing competition aimed at undergraduate students. Aims as a space for all students in Indonesia who have creative ideas and thoughts to be developed in accordance with a scientific mindset by referring to credible information.
This activity was carried out by the Civil Engineering National Summit (CENS) of the University of Indonesia, with the theme "Blueprint to Adventure: Civil Engineering Role in Sustainable Tourism”. Taking place on 8 – 9 March 2024 online via zoom. Followed by 20 groups who had been selected through the essay writing selection process by the committee.

DESMA Center also participated in providing briefings filled by Mrs. Wiwik Mahdayani, Founder & Executive Director of DESMA Center; as well as a mentoring session for participants by Putri Widiansyah Lestari, Senior Program Officer at DESMA Center and Firra Kholisha Mustika, Senior Communication Officer at DESMA Center.
The briefing provided by Mrs. Wiwik was related to the development of sustainable tourism in Indonesia, the framework of reference used to develop tourism destinations, the sustainable tourism approach in developing tourism destinations (taking into account social, economic and environmental aspects) and the implementation of programs that have been implemented by the DESMA Center relating to sustainable tourism.
After debriefing, participants were given a case study to analyze the practice of developing Tourism Villages in Indonesia in accordance with sustainability principles. The work on this case study was accompanied by mentors and presented by the participants on the second day. Participant presentations related to case studies need to be displayedframework STEEP (Social, Technological, Economic, Environmental, andPolitical).

The results after the presentation, the participants were able to carry out analyzes related to sustainable tourism in tourist villages and in accordance with the STEEP framework. The participants provided innovative ideas for tourism villages in case studies so that management could be carried out better.
