Workshop on Management of Tourism Destinations and Tourism Villages in Deli Serdang Regency, North Sumatra

The Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy of the Republic (Kemenparekraf) collaborated with Commission X DPR RI to hold the eventWorkshop on Management of Tourism Destinations and Tourism Villages in Deli Serdang Regency, North Sumatra on January 17 2024.

This workshop was attended by 80 participants. Also present to give a speech was Mrs. S. Utari Widyastuti, Director of Destination Development I, Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy, represented by Head of the Region I Team, Directorate of Destination Development I, Mr. Drs. Agus Suprihastono, MM;; Mr. Sandiaga S. Uno, Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy of the Republic (online); and Mr. Ismail, SSTP, MSP, Head of the Culture, Youth, Sports and Tourism Department of Deli Serdang Regency. On this occasion, Mr. dr. Sofyan Tan, Chairman of the DPR RI Commission

Mrs. Wiwik Mahdayani, Founder & Executive Director of DESMA Center was a key resource person in the workshop. The presentation presented regarding the Governance of Tourism Destinations and Tourism Villages contains sustainable tourism development, ideal stages in developing tourism destinations, principles of developing tourist villages andbest practice.

Mrs. Wiwik explained the concept of best practice from her experience in various community-based tourism destinations and tourist villages including Batu Katak Ecotourism - Langkat, North Sumatra, which is a buffer area in the Gunung Leuser National Park which has attractive natural panoramas, flora and fauna and the life of local communities; Bilebante Tourism Village, Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara which attracts people's creativity in managing an area.

Mrs. Wiwik also explained the example of Pasar Kamu - Deli Serdang, North Sumatra. This tourism destination has similarities to the Fishing Market - in the Bilebante Tourism Village, Lombok. Prioritizing 172 female traders, who present traditional games and educational ecotourism packages - learning to grow rice and vegetables.
