Signing of MoU between DESMA Center and Sima Sumba Hotel

In order to implement the program to improve the quality of Tourism Vocational Schools in Sumba, the aspect of collaboration with the industrial world is an important component that can support the success of the program implemented by the DESMA Center. Therefore, DESMA Center built a collaboration with SIMA Hotel Sumba which was marked by a signingMemorandum of Understanding (MoU) or memorandum of understanding.

The signing of this MoU was carried out on Friday, 08 December 2023 at the DESMA Center Field Office Sumba, Jl. Paris, Langga Lero Village, Southwest Sumba. DESMA Center was represented by Mr Boyke Hutapea, Program Manager Field Office Sumba; and Mr. Dhana Dhiwantara, representing the General Manager of SIMA Sumba Hotel.

With this collaboration, it is hoped that both parties will help each other to improve the quality of graduates, especially human resources at Tourism Vocational Schools in Sumba. Some of the scope of cooperation built to achieve this goal is the Industrial Work Practice Program (Prakerin) for Tourism Vocational School students, school and industry visitation programs, joint preparation of industry-based curricula, industrial guest teacher programs, development programsTeaching Factory (TeFa) schools, and school teacher competency improvement programs in the form of training, seminars, workshops and teacher internships in industry.

 

 

This activity is part of the TVET Program for Sustainable Tourism Development in Sumba which is implemented by the DESMA Center.

The TVET for Sustainable Tourism Development in Sumba program is supported by MISEREOR/KZE; implemented by the DESMA Center. Strengthening the Capacity of Tourism Human Resources aims to realize "a tourism vocational school education program in Sumba to meet the needs and requirements of the tourism industry, thereby offering better job opportunities for young people and supporting sustainable tourism in Sumba."

This program includes strengthening (1) The management capacity of tourism vocational schools in line with the independent curriculum and the concept of sustainable tourism; (2) Teacher capacity in pedagogical knowledge, about teaching and sustainable tourism (3) Tourism Vocational School-Tourism Industry Partnership; and (4) Students' entrepreneurial capacity in creating a sustainable tourism business.

 

The direct beneficiaries of this program are (1) Pancasila Vocational School – Tambolaka, Southwest Sumba; (2) SMK Negeri 2 Tambolaka City, Southwest Sumba; (3) Bakti Luhur Vocational School – Tambolaka, Southwest Sumba; (4) Efata Vocational School - Omba Rade, Southwest Sumba; and (5) Waikabubak State Vocational School 1, West Sumba. The direct partners of this program are (1) East Nusa Tenggara Province Education & Culture Office; (2) Southwest Sumba Regency Government; (3) West Sumba Regency Government; (4) Southwest Sumba Regency Tourism Office; and (5) West Sumba Regency Tourism Office.
