Technological developments have changed many aspects of life, including education. Supporting this, the DESMA Center carried out a Workshop on the Use of Digital Media to Improve the Green Competency of Tourism Vocational Schools. Held on November 23 2023 at Pasola Hall at the Sinar Tambolaka Hotel, Sumba, East Nusa Tenggara.

There were 62 participants from 5 assisted schools, namely teachers and students (SMKS Bakti Luhur, SMKS Pancasila Tambolaka, SMKN 2 Kota Tambolaka, SMKS Efata Omba Rade, SMKN 1 Waikabubak) and 2 affected schools, namely teachers and students (SMKN 2 Lamboya, and SMKS Don Bosco); 5 female students who helped carry out the activities and 3 facilitators. The trainers for this activity are Danang Giri Sadewa, Education Influencer and Firra Kholisha Mustika, Senior Communication Officer at DESMA Center.

This workshop consists of three sessions. The first session was material on how to produce vlog content which was filled by Danang. Participants are invited to be creative by creating educational content with a relaxed and light concept so that the content can attract attention on social media. Danang also gave an example of camera angle techniques in taking videos which were then edited using the CapCut application.

The second session was material on using social media filled by Firra. Participants are given an understanding regarding managing and maximizing the social media functions of Instagram, Facebook, Tiktok and LinkedIn for comparing Teaching Factory products and services. The social media LinkedIn can also be maximized by schoolsalumni tracing.

The third session is the practice of making a vlog which is then uploaded to social media, with the topic of introducing Sumba tourism destinations, typical Sumba food and Sumba culture/annual events. With this activity, it is hoped that Tourism Vocational School students will have a deeper understanding of the use of digital media, be able to create vlogs and utilize social media to convey awareness of the importance of environmentally friendly Tourism Vocational School education to encourage sustainable tourism, through digital channels.
