Workshop Greening TVET Schools for Sustainable Development in Indonesia
To strengthen the implementation of environmentally friendly Vocational High School (SMK) activities in Indonesia, UNESCO Jakarta held a Greening Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Schools for Sustainable Development Workshop on Friday, September 22 2023 at the Le Meridien Hotel, Jakarta. This activity was attended by 58 Vocational High Schools (SMK) from JABODETABEK.
DESMA Center was one of the speakers at the Talk show session: Sustainable Tourism and Greening Initiatives at TVET Schools. Mrs. Wiwik Mahdayani, Founder & Executive Director of DESMA Center presented the program initiative carried out by DESMA Center which is the implementation of sustainable tourism in TVET institutions to reach educators and students to better understand and apply the principles of sustainable tourism in the management and implementation of tourism.

Some concrete examples of programs carried out by the DESMA Center together with the assisted Tourism Vocational Schools in Sumba, NTT include the workshop seriesgreen school to create a green school both in teaching materials and vocational school activities, school living kitchen programs, programsfun garden; and the environmental & climate change action awareness campaign series. These activities involve schools, educators, students and young people in their implementation.
Mrs. Wiwik Mahdayani added the issue ofwellness tourism or fitness tourism as one of the latest trends, which is the implementation of sustainable tourism. This issue was discussed as one of the industry's needs regarding the latest trends and the need for field workerswellness which can be fulfilled by vocational schools. DESMA Center has experience assisting the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy of the Republic of Indonesia (Kemenparekraf RI) in several programs related to wellness tourism, including the preparation of documents National Action Plan Wellness Tourism 2022 – 2026; and joined in the joint work secretariat to prepare the substance of organizing the International Wellness Tourism Conference and Festival (IWTCF) 2022 as the official side event of the G20, and Preparation Categorization of Attractions for Fitness Tourism Promotion Indonesia.

Through the presentation delivered at the Sustainable Tourism and Greening Initiatives at TVET Schools talk show, it is hoped that program input and good practices can be provided for environmentally conscious vocational schools
