Public Consultation on Categorization of Attractions for Promotion of Indonesian Wellness Tourism

Indonesia is the country in 7th position out of 45 countries in Asia-Pacific which has the highest marketwellness economy based on data by the Global Wellness Institute (GWI) in 2020. Per capita income of the sectorswellness economy in Indonesia reached US$ 133 billion. There are 3 (three) sectorswellness economy the highest contributor in Indonesia, namelyHealthy Eating, Nutrition, & Weight Loss; Personal Care & Beauty; dan Traditional & Complimentary Medicine.
In 2022 the word "Healing" is one of the words that is included in the 3 (three) highest searches in the "What" category according to the reportYear in Search 2022 by Google Indonesia. The word "healing" in this context is related to the desire for "traveling" activities which aim to take a vacation while recovering the body's condition after daily activities. This phenomenon of the need to travel is an opportunity to promote the attractiveness of various fitness tourism destinations in Indonesia.

To strengthen Indonesia's position as a destinationwellness tourism in Southeast Asia and Globally, the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy carries out the Categorization of AttractionsWellness Tourism. This activity is a series of follow-up to the RAN (National Action Plan) documentWellness Tourism 2022-2026 and aims to categorize and identify Indonesian wellness tourism attractions that are ready to be promoted. This categorization is expected to be a guide for stakeholders to identify priority attractions and determine promotion and marketing strategies in an effort to realize quality, competitive and sustainable tourism development.
This public consultation is the second stage of Focus Group Discussion (FGD), after it was implemented The first stage of FGD was on August 2 2023.
The 2nd FGD was held on 5 September 2023 as a follow-up to the results of the preparation team's elaboration and input from participants in the 1st FGD. This activity was attended by 68 participants representing Ministries/Institutions, Wellness Associations, Tourism Associations, Medical Associations, Medical Associations, Tourism Management Bodies Health, Media and Wellness Events, Indonesian Wellness Industry, and other Indonesian Tourism Industries.

The public consultation was opened with the direction of Mr. Vinsensius Jemadu, Deputy for Tourism Products and Event Organizers, Ministry of Tourism & Creative Economy, followed by remarks by Prof. Dr. Laksono Trisnantoro, M.Sc., Ph.D. Special Staff of the Minister of Health for the Resilience of the Medicines and Health Devices Industry. The public consultation activity continued with a presentation by Mrs. Wiwik Mahdayani, Founder & Executive Director of DESMA Center followed by a discussion session with the participants facilitated by the DESMA Center team.
The DESMA Center team together with the Directorate of Special Interest Tourism, Deputy for Tourism Products and Event Organizers, Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy will follow up on the results of this second FGD by elaborating and preparing a guide document for the categorization of fitness tourism attractions as a reference for promotion as a follow-up .
