Kick-off Meeting for Organizing Attraction Categorization for Promotion of Indonesian Wellness Tourism

After the Covid19 pandemic, various countries, including countries in Southeast Asia, are increasingly trying to attract tourists to enjoy fitness tourism. According to the Global Wellness Institutes, Asia-Pacific has a marketwellness the most prominent region, followed by North America and Europe, contributing $1.5, $1.3 and $1.1 trillion, respectively. Indonesia is ranked 7th as the top market in Asia-Pacific, or the top twenty global markets in termswellness economy.
To strengthen Indonesia's position as a destinationwellness tourism in Southeast Asia and Global, the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy carries out the Arrangement of Attraction CategorizationWellness Tourism on Wednesday, 2 August 2023. This activity is a series of follow-up to the RAN (National Action Plan) documentWellness Tourism 2022-2026 and aims to categorize and identify the attractiveness of Indonesian wellness tourism that is ready to be promoted.

This activity was opened by Mr. Itok Parikesit, ST., M.M., Director of Special Interest Tourism, Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy. Attended by 31 people from Ministries/Agencies, as well as Association leaders Wellness, Tourism Association, Medical Association, Health Tourism Management Agency, Media &Wellness Event, and Industry Wellness Indonesia.
The preparation of categorization is packaged in the form of FGD (focus group discussion) aims to gather input from actors for sector development wellness tourism in Indonesia. The FGD activity began with a presentation by Ms. Wiwik Mahdayani, Founder & Director of the DESMA Center, followed by a discussion session.
In line with the aim of realizing quality, competitive and sustainable tourism development, the formulation of categorization is determined by identifying and agreeing on the attractiveness and category of destinations wellness tourism superior in Indonesia; so that it becomes a guide for relevant stakeholders in the development and promotion strategy.
