Masterclass with Michael Tjandra: How to Make Impactful Communication and Presentation

Non-technical skills (soft skill) such as communication and presentation skills need to be possessed by educators/teachers to support the teaching and learning process to run well and effectively. Seeing the importance of this, the DESMA Center facilitates training activities to improve communication and presentation skills for productive teachers at Tourism Vocational Schools, Sumba, East Nusa Tenggara.
The training activities were held on July 12 2023 at the SIMA Hotel, Southwest Sumba. Trainer for this activity Mr. Michael Tjandra, program host at RTV and currently filling in the "Michael Tjandra Extraordinary" program; and Mrs. Conny Manurung, National Mentor Candidate for Our Sake.
31 participants consisted of productive teacher representatives from 5 assisted schools (Bakti Luhur Tambolaka Vocational School, Tambolaka Pancasila Vocational School, Tambolaka City 2 Vocational School, Efata Omba Rade Vocational School, Waikabubak Vocational School 1) and 3 affected schools (Lamboya 2 Vocational High School, Kodi 1 Vocational High School). North, SMKS Kasimo).
The first session, filled by Mr. Michael with the topic of building a strong presentation structure, using the right body language, dealing with fear of public speaking, using effective visualization, and improving listening skills.
The second session, filled by Mrs. Conny with the topic of the importance of understanding learning theory as a basis for developing effective learning methods. One method that can be applied is the canvas learning method to optimize interactive learning experiences through digital technology and collaboration.
Through Masterclass with Michael Tjandra: How to Make Impactful Communication and Presentation is expected to help productive teachers to become creative and innovative educators in the teaching and learning process in the classroom. This training activity is part of Program TVET for Sustainable Tourism Development in Sumba implemented by the DESMA Center.

The TVET Program for Sustainable Tourism Development in Sumba is supported by MISEREOR/KZE; implemented by the DESMA Center. Strengthening Tourism HR Capacity aims to realize "The tourism vocational school education program in Sumba so that it meets the needs and requirements of the tourism industry, thereby offering better job opportunities for young people and supporting sustainable tourism in Sumba."
This program includes strengthening (1) the management capacity of tourism vocational schools that are in line with the independent curriculum and the concept of sustainable tourism; (2) Teacher capacity in pedagogical knowledge, about sustainable teaching and tourism (3) Tourism Industry Vocational Vocational School Partnership; and (4) the entrepreneurial capacity of students in creating sustainable tourism businesses.
The direct beneficiaries of this program are (1) SMK Pancasila – Tambolaka, Southwest Sumba; (2) State Vocational School 2 Tambolaka City, Southwest Sumba; (3) Bakti Luhur Vocational School – Tambolaka, Southwest Sumba; (4) Efata Vocational School - Omba Rade, Southwest Sumba; and (5) SMK Negeri 1 Waikabubak, West Sumba. The direct partners of this program are (1) the Office of Education & Culture of East Nusa Tenggara Province; (2) Southwest Sumba Regency Government; (3) West Sumba Regency Government; (4) Tourism Office of Southwest Sumba Regency; and (5) West Sumba Regency Tourism Office.
