Recognizing Work Culture in Travel and Culinary Industry

Recognize work culture is a fundamental and essential part in professional industry culture. Intending for applicant knowing the work rhythm and preparing human resource (HR) for ready to entering professional industry. Entrepreneur and professional field (IDUKA) needs competent manpower from vocational high school (SMK). SMK educates and makes superior students for fulfilling industry needs.

 

Monday, 27 March 2023 and Tuesday, 28 March 2023, DESMA Center facilitate vocational guest teacher with theme “Mengenal Budaya Kerja Usaha Perjalanan Wisata dan Pelayanan Tata Boga” to four DESMA Center beneficiaries vocational tourism school in Sumba Barat and Sumba Barat Daya Regency. Student who got this change from class X and XII hotelier major SMKS Efata Omba Rade, students class X and XI Travel majors SMKN 1 Waikabubak; Student class X, XI, and XII Hotelier and culinary industry majors SMKS Bakti Luhur Tambolaka; and students class X and XI travel majors SMKS Pancasila Tambolaka. The vocational guest teacher for this event is Mr. Yance Lele Dapawole, tour guide member of Indonesian tour guide association chapter Bali (DPD HPI Bali) also owner and manager Neruloko Waroeng and Koffie, Waikabubak.

 

 

Mr. Yance shared basic knowledge and basic abstract about culinary service to SMKS Efata Omba Rade dan SMKS Bakti Luhur Tambolaka students. He also shared his experience for guest service in Bali and work experience on cruise ships. Basic fundamental skills for service is knowledge how to serve guest in restaurant with polite and friendly, knowing menu and capable to explain menu to guest .

 

He also giving syllabus about well grooming and cleanliness. Besides the service attitude in the restaurant that's building a strong confident and controlling emotion when facing several characters of guests.

 

 

In Travel class with students SMKN 1 Waikabubak Sumba Barat and SMKS Pancasila Tambolaka, he also sharing his work experience as a good tour leader when inbound and outbound. Many people have an important principle as a tour guide that is responsible, confident, well groomed and capable of the foreign language. 

 

On the last event, Mr. Yance and school management discuss about collaboration. He will help to open connections with the hotel industry in Bali for student and teacher internship also open for student internship opportunities in Neruloko Waroeng and Koffie – Waikabubak.

 

This event intending to unite industry executant and SMK education field  especially in tourism sector for program link and match reached. With expectation theory knowledge can enriched after knowledge and experience sharing from industry executant. Not only that, linkage relationship with industry executant also giving opportunities for school on other event who support upgrading quality and quantity and competency student and teacher.

Program TVET for Sustainable Tourism Development in Sumba supported by MISEREOR/KZE; implemented by DESMA Center. Upgrading capacity of human resource on tourism inted to implement “vocation tourism school education program in Sumba in order to fulfilling needs and requirement on tourism industry, so it can offering better employment opportunity to youth and also supporting sustainable tourism in sumba.”

 

This program covering upgrading for (1) management capacity vocational tourism school reciprocal with merdeka curriculum and sustainable tourism concept; (2) teacher capacity in knowledge about pedagogy, teaching dan sustainable tourism (3)partnership tourism vocational school and tourism Industry (4) student entrepreneurship capacity for creating sustainable tourism business.

 

Beneficiaries for this program is (1) SMK Pancasila – Tambolaka, Sumba Barat Daya; (2) SMK Negeri 2 Kota Tambolaka, Sumba Barat Daya; (3) SMK Bakti Luhur – Tambolaka, Sumba Barat Daya; (4) SMK Efata - Omba Rade, Sumba Barat Daya; dan (5) SMK Negeri 1 Waikabubak, Sumba Barat. Partner for this program is (1) Nusa Tenggara Timur education and culture state authority; (2) Government Sumba Barat Daya regency; (3) Government Sumba Barat Regency; (4) Sumba Barat Daya Tourism Regency Authority; dan (5) Sumba Barat Tourism Regency Authority.
