Vocational Tourism School Workshop Towarding Green School to Support Development Sustainable Tourism in Sumba

Green school program not only greening the school building, however program and education activity oriented to environment. For giving the understanding to assist school and non-assist school, DESMA Center hold a workshop titled SMK Pariwisata Menuju Sekolah Hijau untuk Mendukung Pengembangan Pariwisata Berkelanjutan in Sumba on Monday, 30 January 2023 in SMKN 1 Waikabubak Auditorium. Speaker on this event is Reza Permadi S.T., M.Par. as a COO (Chief Operating Officer) Atourin, Lecturer and activist of sustainable tourism.

 

Followed by five DESMA Center assisted Vocational School such as SMKN 1 Waikabubak, SMKN 2 Kota Tambolaka, SMKS Efata, SMKS Bakti Luhur, SMKS Pancasila and non assisted Vocational School such SMKN 2 Lamboya from Sumba Barat dan SMKS Kasimo from Sumba Barat Daya. both of all non assisted Vocational School are vocational tourism schools affected by previous mentoring program.

 

Event started with the opening speech from the principal of SMKN 1 Waikabubak, Mrs. Yohana landa, S.Pd., M.PdK,. in her opening speech she stated ready to successing  green school program because this is a proper program to implemented in the school. Second speech also event opener by Sumba Barat controller coordinator Mrs. Adriana Martha D. Ngongo, S.Pd., on this session she stated she give a huge support for green school event because this green school concept also became a planned program by NTT State Government. Third speech by Program manager DESMA Center Sumba Barat Daya Mr. Boyke Hutapea, who tell outline of a mentorship program DESMA Center which was held during three years in Sumba Barat Daya and Sumba Barat.

 

 

Speaker gave a material about definition, implementation principle and practice about sustainable tourism on tourism destinations and the tourism industry as a reference who could implement it by the Tourism Vocational School in Sumba. After the course and discussion the participant get an idea about implementing a green school.

 

SMKS Pancasila initiate to make fun garden every saturday and make a instant drink product from moringa leaves and lemongrass. Intending to introduce environment oriented education and culture analyzing with student creative products.

 

SMKS Bakti Luhur designed waste sorting and utilization by optimizing the dapur hidup program and also green garden. Intend to introduce and inculcate awareness to public facilities in tourism destinations to students.

 

SMKS Efata designing dapur hidup, biogas and waste recycling in school. Intend to give an understanding about eco-friendly tourism and persuade students to reduce water and land pollution.

 

SMKN 2 Lamboya planned to provide short and long term plants in school, preparing  literacy trees for students and also introducing the student natural dyes for tenun ikat Kraja Lamboya. Intending to introduce, cultivate and conserve the culture.

 

SMKN 2 Kota Tambolaka designed plastic recycling, preparing go international tourism , normalizing students to speak english in class or outside the class and normalizing students with green school.

 

 

SMKN 1 Waikabubak designing ecobrick event, normalizing student to bring tumbler and also collaborate with tourism village in sustainable tourism issues.

 

 

This event also persuades schools to implement green school programs with uploading  information related about green school and sustainable tourism on Instagram. A hashtag used on that program is #WisataHijau #SUMBAVOKASI #GOGREEN #GOSUSTAIN.

 

Workshop on tourism vocational school intending green school for support development on sustainable tourism in Sumba as a part of program TVET for Sustainable Tourism Development in Sumba who implemented by DESMA Center.

Program TVET for Sustainable Tourism Development in Sumba funded by MISEREOR/KZE; implemented by DESMA Center. Tourism Human Capital capacity building intend to implement “Education tourism vocational school Program in Sumba to upgrading capacity and comply student to fulfil in tourism industry, with the result that can supporting youth and also support sustainable tourism in Sumba.”

 

This program included empowerment for (1) tourism vocational school capacity management who related with merdeka curriculum also sustainable tourism concept; (2) teacher capacity in pedagogy knowledge, about teaching and sustainable tourism (3) partnership between tourism vocational school and tourism industry; and (4) student entrepreneurship capacity in creating sustainable tourism business.

 

Beneficiaries for this program is (1) SMK Pancasila – Tambolaka, Sumba Barat Daya; (2) SMK Negeri 2 Kota Tambolaka, Sumba Barat Daya; (3) SMK Bakti Luhur – Tambolaka, Sumba Barat Daya; (4) SMK Efata - Omba Rade, Sumba Barat Daya; dan (5) SMK Negeri 1 Waikabubak, Sumba Barat. Stakeholders for this program is (1) Nusa Tenggara Timur culture and education states authority; (2) government regency od Sumba Barat Daya; (3) government regency of Sumba Barat; (4) Sumba Barat Daya tourism regency authority; and (5) Sumba Barat tourism regency authority.
