DESMA Center and the Ministry of Tourism Hold a Coordination Meeting on the Development of the Indonesia Wellness Tourism Catalog

Author: Siti Nur Hasbiyana, Program Associate

The Ministry of Tourism’s (Kemenpar) flagship program, “Pariwisata Naik Kelas,” focuses on developing three special-interest tourism themes: gastronomic tourism, marine tourism, and wellness tourism. To support the development of wellness tourism in Indonesia, the DESMA Center—as a partner of the Assistant Deputy for Business Development and Access to Capital, under the Deputy for Industry and Investment at the Ministry of Tourism (Kemenpar)—is compiling a catalog of Indonesian wellness tourism. This catalog will feature curated wellness and health tourism businesses.

To reach the entire wellness tourism sector, the DESMA Center, together with the Assistant Deputy for Business Development and Access to Capital under the Deputy for Industry and Investment at the Ministry of Tourism, held an outreach event during the “Coordination Meeting on Health Tourism Development” in Jakarta on May 19, 2026. The meeting brought together 26 organizations and businesses, including wellness and health associations, travel agencies, and experts. This meeting served as a follow-up to a series of previous in-person meetings, with the aim of raising awareness about the development of an Indonesian wellness tourism catalog and gathering feedback and data on wellness and health tourism.

The compilation of this catalog is expected to identify wellness and health tourism businesses that are ready to be promoted and to establish business partnerships across industries to support the development of Indonesia’s wellness tourism sector. As such, this catalog represents one step toward creating a competitive, high-quality, and sustainable wellness and health tourism ecosystem in Indonesia.
