Workshop Empowering Sustainable Tourism: Integrating Blue, Green, and Circular Economy into Tourism Operations

Partner: Ministry of Tourism of the Republic of Indonesia

Within the framework of adopting and implementing sustainable tourism, as well as efforts to minimize the negative impacts of tourism sector activities, the Government of Indonesia encourages the application of the Blue, Green, and Circular Economy (BGCE) in the tourism sector. BGCE is an economic concept that takes into account sustainability aspects in both environmental and social contexts. Through the implementation of BGCE, the tourism sector is expected to undergo a transformation toward achieving sustainable tourism.

To accelerate the implementation of BGCE in the tourism sector, DESMA Center, in collaboration with the Assistant Deputy for Sustainable Tourism Business Management, Deputy for Industry and Investment, Ministry of Tourism (Kemenpar), and in partnership with the Committee for Economic and Commercial Cooperation (COMCEC) of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), carried out a workshop entitled “Empowering Sustainable Tourism: Integrating Blue, Green, and Circular Economy into Tourism Operations”, which was held in Jakarta on 26–28 August 2025.

As the Knowledge Partner, DESMA Center was responsible for developing the overall concept and all substantive aspects, including preparing the agenda, determining the training materials, and curating speakers, trainers, and experts, as well as ensuring that the implementation of the event was aligned with the agreed concept, outputs, and objectives. This role also included the preparation of output reports and the comprehensive and end-to-end implementation of the activity.
