ASEAN-Germany Project”ASEAN Municipal Solid Waste Management Enhancement (AMUSE)” implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) in collaboration with the ASEAN Secretariat to support ASEAN Member States (AMS) to improve the quality of the environment in cities which is becoming a tourism destination in the ASEAN region through strengthening competencies in optimizing waste management and waste recycling in and sustainable tourism. This three-year project (2022-2025) specifically addresses four focus countries that are beneficiaries for the pilot implementation, namely: Cambodia (Siem Reap), Laos (Vang Vieng), Thailand and Vietnam (Da Lat).

 

At the regional level, the AMUSE project aims to increase regional cooperation and knowledge management through a digital knowledge platform that handles and involves relevant ASEAN Working Groups in the fields of solid waste management and tourism, namely the ASEAN Working Group for Environmentally Conscious Cities (ASEAN Working Group on Environmentally Sustainable Cities/AWGESC), the ASEAN Working Group on Environmental Education (AWGEE), the ASEAN Sustainable and Inclusive Tourism Development Committee (ASITDC), and the ASEAN Smart Cities Network (ASEAN Smart Cities Network /ASCN).

 

The AMUSE project plans to develop a regional digital platform that will collect and display data, publications and examples of good practices in waste management in tourism and sustainable tourism destinations that can be useful and can be used efficiently and effectively by users throughout ASEAN.

 

DESMA Center as implementing partner (implementing partner) intervention in various programs related to waste management at tourism destinations in ASEAN and sustainable tourism at the ASEAN regional level and focus countries that are beneficiaries in ASEAN.
