Building a Resilient Tropical Rainforest Heritage of Sumatra for Climate Change Mitigation and Biodiversity Conservation

The Tropical Rainforest Heritage of Sumatera (TRHS) was inscribed on the List of World Heritage in Danger in 2011 by the World Heritage Committee (WHC) due to the long-standing threats to the integrity of this site. In order to overcome those threats, Government of Indonesia was requested by WHC to do several actions, including: (1) Finalize the Desired State of Conservation (DSOCR) for the removal of TRHS from In Danger List, (2) Draft the Corrective Measures (CM), and (3) Complete an Emergency Action Plan (EAP). The requested strategies include carrying out a Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) of the cumulative effects of all road development plans in Bukit Barisan Mountain Range area, where TRHS is located. The activities conducted was the participatory development of strategies and action plan to overcome the threats of TRHS, that was inscribed on the list of World Heritage in Danger in 2011 by conducted workshop and series of strategic meetings.
